You might have already read our old post on racing game reviews about Asphalt 8: Airborne which is also a very good game, in fact is one of my favorites. But today, lets talk about F1 Arcade, another racing game for the iOS platform
Speed games, both arcade games and simulators, continue unleashing passions among fans for this industry, and more if this competition focuses on specialty Queen of motor racing: Formula 1. F1 2013 premiered with much success just days ago in PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and now comes the turn to enjoy such honor iOS devices. We must however make clear from the outset that F1 Challenge has nothing to do with the speed Simulator, as perpetrators (Codemasters in this case) have decided to offer something completely different and that offers us a unique experience.
To be an official game, the title presents the cars, equipment, drivers and other key parts that make up the competition… Or rather, that they made up, since the license that introduces the game is for the last season, something that cast back more purists.
But when it comes to immersing ourselves in racing, this production layout changes a lot in relation to the enjoyed in the aforementioned 2013 F1. And it is that proposal and staging of F1 Challenge has nothing to do.
What is most striking is that on this occasion has wanted capture each race from a different point of view, as was the case in many of the productions of this same nature that appeared during the 16-bit era. In this way the perspective that has been chosen to follow the evolution of races is air minced, trying to offer more spectacular levels possible, but that is not always the most effective.
But the most important thing has to do with the gameplay, which in this case is far from the experience in F1 2013. In this way controls were conveniently adapted to function correctly in these touch devices. Thus, to choose the line of our vehicle we slide finger in the area of the corresponding track system that responds well in the majority of cases. And the same goes for the use of the famous KERS, can activate them in the moments that we create timely impetus for turbo extra that allows us to pre-empt rivals with greater comfort. And that control of the KERS technology is the only one that we have on the speed which helps circulate our vehicle, since it accelerates and slows down automatically.
The simulation factor is less charged than the one registered in the desktop version, although it is true that we do not have a pure arcade. And that he is no doubt noticed that Codemasters has sought to provide a gaming experience as accessible as possible to the largest number of users of iOS devices. And as always happens in these cases, there will be players whom this does no grace and others who will appreciate such intention.
In terms of the supply of game itself, the title allows us to participate in nearly a hundred races and different events (classifications, direct duels, time trials…), number more than respectable for a title of these characteristics. Unfortunately it’s a game designed only to be enjoyed by a single player, something that remains several integers a such title. And this is coupled with a lack of overall depth more than remarkable, being a title fun but lacking in substance to those players who expect a more complete game.
Graphically and leaving aside the issue of the chosen perspective, it’s a title well captured. The decision to reduce the number of participants who depart from the starting grid benefits the softness which passes every test. The design of the car is simple but meets and exceeds, while circuits are displayed something less skilled workers and its appearance is rather functional.
Sound thrives on a more discreet soundtrack but that is compensated with good sound effects, highlighting the sound of the engines.
Formula 1 comes to iOS formats with a well constructed and entertaining title but that is far from reaching the levels of quality and show denoted by the recent F1 2013. More than a simulator, we have a fairly simple arcade but which can engage fans less genre purists.
Codemasters offers the possibility of enjoying the Formula 1 World Championship to iOS device users. That Yes, it’s a gaming experience unlike the implied in recent F1 2013 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, in this case being a game much more simple and limited in many ways. Title sports is entertaining, but don’t expect great fanfare of any kind and, also, note this license that incorporates is the corresponding to the previous campaign.
If you are an F1 fan, then you definitely need to check out this game at itunes.
